Miserable At Best, A Lesson In Romantics, 2007, Fearless Records – Miserable At Best though some uneasy listening, like many other Mayday Parade songs like Stay and Terrible Things is a really elegantly written song, played to a soft piano beat, Derek Sanders sings this song so delicately, that it’s simplicity is why it’s such a brilliant and a standout song – Miserable at Best is a predecessor for many emotional songs that will come in it’s wake and a blend of fast and slow paces styles – Mayday Parade do this exceptionally well.Ĥ. Black Cat, A Lesson In Romantics, 2007, Fearless Records – A Lesson In Romantics is Mayday Parade’s debut album and it was a hell of a debut, with songs like Black Cat with a pace of a rocket launching into space, quite like their careers – it’s pace is brilliant, it’s lyrics, the guitars on this song are also quintessential to the style of the song with a riff that just works with a fast pace to it to it that I enjoy and I know an audience do too, leaving a moshpit mess in it’s wake at live shows – it’s one of the highlights of an amazing debut record.ģ. Kids In Love, Anywhere But Here, 2009, Fearless Records/Atlantic – Kids In Love in it’s original recording or it’s acoustic version on Valdosta, are both quintessential listening for the aspiring fan, with a groovy drum beat and a catchy chorus, the song about having a holiday or summer romance is a staple in any Mayday Parade setlist – Kids In Love is catchy and in some ways quite pop compared to it’s descendents as they would move to a more emotional and deep sound with slower beats and adagio (or slow for the less pretentious) style to their sound.Ģ. M ayday Parade is a quintet, that burst on the scene in the late noughties with a style of clashing melodies and rocky drum styles – Mayday Parade has classic rock songs like Black Cat but soft sweeping melodies like Kids In Love, with Acoustic EP’s like Valdosta in there too which includes the emotional Terrible Things, Mayday Parade are not a band for musical consistency and you wouldn’t want them to be.ġ.
